Rock Foundations - Hole in the Wall Road

Hole in the Wall Road

As the intended location for the new Gibraltar Power Station was the Lathbury Barracks at the top of the rock above Europa Point access for the delivery of the large power units was always going to prove a challenge. The solution was to stabilise and improve the capacity of the existing access road known as The Hole The Wall Road.

Given the extreme gradient of this existing road any works would require specialist equipment and a good deal of planning.
Rock Foundations (Gibraltar) successfully tendered for the project and assisted in the design of a micro piled solution for the works.

We deployed our MDT MC80 restricted access rig which has excellent stability and able to work at difficult gradients and angles. Using this equipment we were able to successfully install 54 number 240mm diameter piles socketed into the hard rock as per the design engineers specification. Also installed were 6 number anchors of similar dimensions to give localised stability.

The works were installed within the desired budget and on time allowing the follow on works to progress as per the overall programme.
