Reaction Frame Test, Gibraltar
The Government of Gibraltar was undertaking a full design for a proposed new Power Station in the Lathbury Barracks vicinity. The ground conditions were fairly complicated with rock of varying degrees of strength below made ground.Rock Foundations (Gibraltar) opted for a 300mm drill bar option which given both the geotechnical and environmental considerations was considered the most appropriate solution.
As part of the design criteria a pre contract test pile would be required to demonstrate the working capacity of the pile in these ground conditions.
With access being restricted a reaction test was opted for, including four anchors and a 300mm test pile.
The test was successfully and safely conducted demonstrating that the 300mm drill bar pile would be an appropriate choice for the project.
